Memoryfinder is a short film combining live-action footage with 2D animation. Following an elderly photographer through Hong Kong’s ageing housing estates and neighbourhoods, the film uses the camera viewfinder as a gateway between the present and the past. Through his lens, empty playgrounds, corridors and familiar urban spaces become populated by fragments of everyday life and memories that once belonged there. By layering animated figures over real locations, the film explores urban change, collective memory and the emotional connection between people and place. Photography becomes a way of preserving moments that may disappear physically, but continue to exist through memory.
